Sensei JohnSensei John began studying at Kimberley Shotokan Karate Club in 1995 at the age of five and worked his way up the Shotokan syllabus to achieve the rank of Shodan in 2008. Surrounded by prominent martial artists from an early age (due to being Sensei Ian’s son) Sensei John’s talent and passion for knowledge soon became apparent. |
He steadily improved and gradually worked his way up the Shotokan grading syllabus, benefiting from taking part in several course’s with Soke Kanazawa from the age of seven. Through his talent and determination Sensei John became noticed and subsequently achieved the title of Sampai at an early age, progressing from there to complete the Instructor and Referee course in 2008, and establish, and become Sensei, of his own beginner’s class in 2011. Now Sensei John has reached the rank of 2nd Dan. This is a great achievement and everyone at the club is immensely proud of him.
Further progress in training and instructing has led to Sensei John being named the Training and Development Officer, meaning he is responsible for the safe running of the club, the scheme of teaching and the inclusion of all abilities within the club. His skill in both Kata and Kumite has been recognized and rewarded, with Sensei John achieving numerous awards.
Sensei John has been fortunate enough to have trained with Soke Kanazawa numerous times, and has also attended courses lead by Kancho Nobuaki Kanazawa and other prominent martial artists.
